@ap0llx: how many ways can yall say "I think women are too dumb to watch a movie like this and still know its just fiction" before I get to call y'all misogynists. Bc its getting to a point bitch
I’m going to be straight up, though I understand a couple of the concerns in this comment section when it comes to marketing, from what I’ve read, this will likely have a limited release and have an NC-17 rating, not just R. I say this because the author has said she wants to do a highly faithful adaptation and work closely with the director. This would have stayed a niche thing if antis hadn’t jumped on it and pushed it further into the limelight. That’s actually my only concern for it being made into a movie is the fiftyleven discourses that are gonna spawn out of antis going to see it, not realizing they’re outing themselves as going out of their way to see it

I don't want movies made out of badly written source material. Yes I'm a touch pretentious about film. Only a touch. There is a time and a place for camp and so bad it's good movie. But Pink Flamingos, Con Air, Bio-Dome this isn't.
I simply don't think the author has the grasp of how to handle the topics well. If she enlists an amazing screenwriter like a Diablo Cody (who handled the subject of rape masterfully in Jennifer's Body) or Lana and Lily Wachowski (who handled the government conspiracy angle masterfully in Sense8) maybe the film could be good. Award winning maybe.
However I don't have faith that a movie can be good with this as the source material. Especially with an author who didn't go to a female director for this very sensitive subject matter. "He's just as twisted as I am" I'm paraphrasing here. She doesn't have it in her to elevate the material to the level it needs to be for a film to be good.

See I think it shouldn’t become a movie because the book is ass. I’m shocked that isn’t the central conversation.

I made a post about it. It said : My problem with people saying that HoA will “normalize” abuse because people who read/watch it will think it’s normal, is that it’s supposed to be an impossible scenario.
People who read/watch HoA are all supposed to be adults, and adults are supposed to have the mental capacity to think for themselves, to seperate fictionnal portrayal and reality, and to hold on to their values and morals.
So how could anyone who read/see HoA be “influenced” by it to the point that they suddenly abandon their values and start committing crimes ?
Because to me, the only people with a brain not capable of thinking for themselves and to separate fictional portrayal and reality are children, and in this debate I hope that we can all agree that children shouldn't be near that book/movie until they are of age.

they're acting like it's going to be a 1:1 porno of the book too 😭 do they realize how much stuff they're going to have to tone down to make sure it doesn't get an nc-17 rating? and if it does get that rating then it's going to be forced to be an incredibly niche movie like the book already was

There's also a hilarious amount of shaming going on about the Wicker movie (I'm so excited) and it's so very obvious that a lot of the issue is it's something sexual women are loudly & proudly enjoying. Because none of them have the same issues with horror.

Today I learned that an alarming amount of people genuinely believe that women wouldn’t be reading Haunting Adeline if they didn’t want to be assaulted in real life😭

i don't want it to be a movie because I tried to read it but for a published book it sounds TOOO Cringy.I cringe,it's not hot enough,OR Scary enough😭💔
It reads like a fic I'd read because it's free and im bored and im interested in an already existing character,AS a book by its own with its own characters it's not good enough.
*I say and bite my lip, wondering if I was too harsh. But don't say that im actually excited about it,because I don't want Arda to know it,and im not supposed to be excited*
(what it all sounds like to me)
(On the other hand,I WANT IT TO GET PUBLISHED because we need mediocrity in cinema so we can acknowledge the actually good movies /J)

i don't mind dark fics or novels but movies and tv shows are another thing. there are real people involved in re-enacting these scenes and the industry is NOTORIOUSLY horible to the actresses, who are often left with severe psychological trauma afterwards.
