Also, another important car safety PSA that should be common knowledge but isn't: cars nowadays are equipped with devices that can communicate intent with regard to which direction you're about to turn. They're called blinkers and not many people seem to know about them. But seriously thanks for teaching us about airbags. I legit did not know that either.

Adding my own PSA for divers in the front seat. Do NOT wear/buy any sunglasses that are not polycarbonate/trivex lenses. When the airbag deploys it will smash your sunglasses into pieces that get shoved into your eyeball and you will lose one or both of your eyes. Polycarbonate lenses have high impact resistance and lower the chances of you losing an eye from airbags breaking your sunglasses

TLDR: if airbags deploy in a collision, wash your skin for 15/20 mins with water to remove the alkaline (can cause chemical burns). Do as soon as possible

Also no claw clips or hair clips. They’ll eat your scalp . Leave distance between your knees and the dashboard. Less chance of broken legs

Also! If you are driving, wear shoes oh my goodness wear shoes! I was in an accident when I was 16 and wasn’t wearing shoes, and I got cuts all over my feet when crawling out of the car.

I wear glasses and have been in 4 car accidents, one was major but I have never had my air bags go off luckily. But I have always been terrified of being blinded from the air bags smashing my glasses into my eyes 😬. I have heard of the chemical burns but I never see anyone talk about wearing glasses when they go off. It is such a fear of mine.

💯 I was in a front on collision in 2023, all airbags deployed. My grip on the steering wheel was TIGHT. Had to treat the “superficial burn” on my wrist for weeks and now have this scar lol

I’ve heard tons of people say they got burned from the airbags, but I think both them and I assumed it was a rub burn type situation. Never would’ve guessed chemical burn!

Also, do not put your feet on the dashboard. Your leg bones will end up inside your abdomen. I've seen X-rays of the aftermath on this app and they HAUNT ME
