This morning, I had a list. I was going to catch up on work. Fold the washing. Reply to messages. Tick a few things off before lunch. Instead, Riley needed me. Not because anything was wrong. Not because I was doing anything wrong. He just needed a little more closeness today. So we’re contact napping. And honestly, I’m trying to stop seeing that as a setback. There was a time when I worried I was creating “bad habits.” Now I know I’m responding to my baby. The one who arrived early. The one who’s 7 months old, but only 5 months corrected. The one who has his own pace, his own needs, and his own little journey. I’ve learned that some of the most important parts of motherhood never make it onto a to do list. Holding your baby when they need you. Letting the washing wait. Choosing connection over productivity. When I opened the Beacon map this morning, it reminded me that there are mums all over the world doing exactly the same thing. Some are holding babies who will only nap on them. Some are bouncing on yoga balls. Some are sitting in quiet nurseries, soaking in the cuddles because they know these days won’t last forever. Every yellow dot is a reminder that there isn’t one right way to spend a morning with your baby. Sometimes the most productive thing we do all day is make them feel safe.
