relationships can be confusing and all of them are toxic. either family relationships, hanging out with friends too much , bf,gf, husband and wife all is toxic no matter how you look at it. the question is what you tolerate and forgive and want to allow in your life is going to explain who you are and your own personal character. make it clear to the person what you want. and if they make it confusing for you still after you made it clear then you have your answer to either stay in it, or bounce
