It’s cognitive empathy as opposed to affective empathy and roots from you not being allowed to express emotions your caregivers were uncomfortable with. Typically forms from “conditioning” when you were age 0-5. Doesn’t mean your parents were bad, but might mean they didn’t ever ask the question you’re asking right now. I’m proud of you. 🫂 If I had to guess, you may only feel you are valued if you are highly productive. And I also imagine you are exhausted. ❤️‍🩹 (my heartfelt emojis may also urge you to roll your eyes 😉)

I have such a bad issues with out of sight out of mind. It’s rare I miss someone when they go away, but the moment they get back my care for them comes back. It’s like I’m a kid with bad object permanece.

I think I do feel the same way. I also don’t really ‘miss’ people

i've never come across someone who put this into words but this is exactly how i feel. i care so deeply for people's well-being (and animals too, even bugs) but can't seem to emotionally connect and love people. it makes me feel lonely tbh. i do have pretty bad trust issues tho so idk if that's got something to do with it but I wouldn't be surprised if it did lol

This sounds a lot like autism to me. I care deeply about people, but I’m emotionally detached most of the time. It doesn’t mean I don’t have empathy. I just experience it differently.

I think I understand more than I feel, which is awful because I know what it is but I couldn't care less because I don't feel anything towards it– like worry or like for someone, I know what it is but I don't feel the need to act upon it,

I have ADHD and do not miss people. Like I will ride and die for you if you have a problem, but I will also not contact you for 5 years and be very content about having zero social contact

There’s many family and friends I don’t really actually love. I care about them on a human level and by default there’s “love”. But if they weren’t my family I wouldn’t be friends with them. I separated myself and genuinely wish the best. I say a lot “I don’t wish for them to starve, they just will not eat at my table.”

Girl for me is the adhd, but in general a lot of neurodivergent people tend to have this kind of issues. For example I can be friends with someone I really care about but not missing them if we're apart, not even a single day, and I can go like this even for years, without the need to see them again, same goes with my family. Nothing wrong with it, it's just the way your brain is made, but yeah the diagnosis helped me so much to understand everything was fine after all

Neurodivergent people tend to have these issues. It’s difficult to support others emotionally even if you care for them due to executive dysfunction, emotional overload, etc. Theres also something called object permanence which can also apply to people in their lives. Outta sight, outta mind.

i always feel like this and it's such a burden. I feel like i’m not as normal as people seem to be. I even sometimes need to think how people should react to certain things like being worried to someone. I remembered one of my friends complaining and crying about her wounds I know I should be worried and comfort her but I couldn't care less but I do wanna help her ease her pain and offer some company just because I thought it's what she would do if I were in her position.

i love how i see a lot of 'out of sight, out of mind' people like me. the longer i don't personally see someone, the more i detach and feel lazy to communicate thru messages. i also feel bad for the fact that i don't "miss" people whenever i say that i just know i don't mean it all, and that i was just trying to seem normal.

I think intellectualising love stops us from actually observing and feeling it. there's a lot of damage overthinking can do, often it just requires more action and reciprocity

I care for people like I swear I do but I have to force myself to listen to their problems or try and comfort them. I want them to come to me and stuff cause I love them but it's hard for me to actually feel anything for anyone

my mom and i were separated for like 3 years when i was a kid. she always asked me: “why don’t you call me first?”, “don’t you miss mom?” and honestly i don’t know why. i could go for days without missing or calling her.

This is me. I REALLY struggle with family obligations. Friend obligation I can handle, because they expect less and I can end the friendship whenever I want. But once they get too dependent on me, I feel insanely uncomfortable. I’m close with my husband and mom, that’s it lol

sometimes I feel guilty for feeling this way..Just like I care and love the people in my life, but do not want to necessarily hang out with them.
