LINDSAY CLANCY TRIAL — DAY 13, PART 2 Okay — now we are finally getting into evidence that feels more relevant to the actual question in this case. Before the afternoon break, jurors heard more testimony about data pulled from Lindsay’s cellphone, including searches related to psychosis, bipolar disorder, suicide methods, “how to slit your throat,” and the carotid artery. Investigators also testified about the January 20 search: “Can you treat a sociopath?” (CT Insider) This is much more interesting to me than the earlier Tom Hall computer search, because this evidence came from Lindsay’s own phone and some of it occurred very close to January 24. (BostonGlobe.com) But I still think the evidence cuts both ways. If Lindsay was actively researching psychosis and bipolar disorder, does that support the defense’s argument that she knew something was seriously wrong with her mental state? Or does it show that she was aware enough of what she was experiencing to research it, analyze it and understand that something was wrong? And the “can you treat a sociopath?” search really stood out to me. Was Lindsay afraid she was becoming someone capable of harming her children? Was she trying to understand the numbness and intrusive thoughts she had already described? Or does the prosecution believe that search somehow supports intent? We also heard texts from January 24 showing a very normal interaction between Lindsay and Patrick that morning. She sent photos of the children, Patrick called her a “good mama,” and she responded normally about Cora’s pediatric appointment. (BostonGlobe.com) So this is where I keep getting stuck: I absolutely believe Lindsay was mentally ill. I am still waiting for evidence that proves she was psychotic at the exact time she killed Cora, Dawson and Callan. But today’s phone searches are at least getting closer to the mental-state evidence I have been waiting for. The question now is what the experts do with it. Do these searches support psychosis — or do they show someone who was intensely aware of and researching her own mental condition? That distinction may end up being extremely important. #Li#LindsayClancyi#LindsayClancyTrialr#TrueCrimeo#CourtroomCoverager#TrueCrimeDiscussion
