Babes it is a very slow process you should not be pressing hard onto taper cones are the worst and that stinging your feeling is always tearing no matter how litter those glass plugs you showed are the only ones you should be using when your sizing up as acrylic tapers are not good and are more then not the reason for getting tearing and infections and spirals are just for decorative not for sizing up. Look into dead stretching the glass is perfect

it hurts because you're physically forcing a stretch with several steps, which isn't adviced. single flare glass plugs in 0.5mm, slow, steady, and safe. as well as safer materials. - a piercer xo

Many many moons ago when I started mine (showing my age) I always stretched them while in a hot bath and either weighted them after so they naturally stretch throughout the day or use a taper and plug the end after the bath so it holds when your body cools down 🥰

A tip I used stretching my ears to 22mm. Each night I would take my taper out, and wrap a piece of tape around it and each day it would stretch really really slow and you don’t feel a difference and no pain at all 🩵 and once I put enough tape around it that it went up a size, I would put the new jewellery in. Leave it in and enjoy it for a while and do that all again when I wanted to go up a size again :)

i know you managed in the end but as a former piercer - PLEASEEEE use half sizes. it helps massively, and it would explain why your stretches hurt. they shouldn’t hurt.

Stretching should never hurt at this stage. A tip for sizing up, you know your ear is ready when the jewellery(tunnel or plug) can be removed over a flare with no forcing or pain, or I know I’m ready when mine just fall out in my sleep. You can also slightly pull on your lobe to see the size of the gap above your jewellery. The next size should just slip right in with no issues. Yes it takes longer but if you want a healthy stretch patients is key. Forcing a taper through your ear is putting you at risk for tears, blowouts and infection as you stated has happened in the past. That stinging you feel is your flesh tearing instead of just stretching.. I also recommend only sizing up 1mm at a time which makes dead stretching a lot quicker.

When I stretched mine the 10mm was the most painful but soooo worth it. Enjoy them 🥰

You’re jumping up by 2mm that’s why it hurts 😔 it really does not need to hurt, and it doesn’t when done properly! I’m at 32mm lobes and my goal of 6mm for my septum

Only thing I can say is, you shouldn’t be pushing it/forcing it through. You should wait a while at each size. Saying that I went straight from an 8mm to 10mm in my right ear with no issues. My left ear won’t stretch at all 🙄

Mine were both at 8mm for 10 years, recently tried to stretch to 10, fucked it, and now they’re both back at 3mm 😭😭
