I cant believe that this still happens. it happened to my mom back in the 60s she was trained to take her engine apart and put it back together, she painted her parts by nail polish that way she'd put the parts back to the correct area. For some reason she couldn't get her carbarater right. she took it in a shop to fix it. she was called to let her know it was ready. when my mom went to drive off after picking it up, she knew that was not her carbarater, she did a u turn and complained that it was not her carbarater that someone took it and put in some else's car. well the boss had all the mechanics pull there cars up and to pop there hoods. they found her fingernail polished carbarater in one of the mechanics car. needless to say , he was fired on the spot.

If it’s just a basic paint repair of the exterior of the vehicle, removing the engine wouldn’t be required. However, if it was a structural repair, it may be required to remove the engine, which they should’ve been able to clearly explain.
