In this conversation with The Amargi, he says his ancestors came from Kurdistan, among the Kurdish soldiers who accompanied Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi to Jerusalem in the 12th century. After the Ayyubid rule was established, some of these soldiers and their families settled in Palestine, becoming part of its social fabric over time. They are often referred to as Palestinian Kurds. Today, Kurdish-origin families can still be found in cities such as Jerusalem, Hebron, and Nablus. Most no longer speak Kurdish, but many are aware of their family’s history. Their story reflects how migration, settlement, and adaptation shaped the diverse communities that make up the region’s past and present.
