11-12 years: P.1000 Ratte The Landkreuzer P.1000 Ratte was a proposed German super-heavy tank designed during World War II. Developed by Krupp in 1942, the vehicle was planned to weigh around 1,000 tons, making it the largest armored fighting vehicle ever conceived. Despite its ambitious design, the project never progressed beyond the blueprint stage. The Ratte was intended to carry an enormous twin 280 mm naval gun turret, similar to those used on German warships. It was also planned to be equipped with a 128 mm anti-tank gun and multiple anti-aircraft weapons for self-defense. The vehicle was expected to measure approximately 35 meters in length, 14 meters in width, and 11 meters in height, giving it a truly battleship-like presence on land. However, the project faced overwhelming practical challenges. Its extreme weight would have prevented it from crossing most bridges, severely limited its mobility, and made transportation nearly impossible. The tank's massive size would also have made it an easy target for enemy aircraft and artillery. Due to these issues, German Armaments Minister Albert Speer canceled the project in early 1943 before a prototype could be built. Today, the P.1000 Ratte remains one of the most famous "what-if" military projects in history. While its firepower and size were impressive on paper, historians generally agree that it would have been impractical and ineffective in real combat conditions. #germany #tiger #panther #fypp #tank
