Lilly Collin also is having a similar body relationship recently so there could be competition and proving or punishing around the movie

It’s narcissism. She’s punishing everyone for calling out something she did wrong.

Developed anorexia after a devastating break up, and in hindsight, I was (among other things) trying to make my ex see how badly he hurt me emotionally by hurting myself physically. My weight loss was so dramatic that I knew it would be unavoidable for him to confront - as disordered as that mentality was

This is 100% what happened to my sister. She died in 2007 and when I read her journals after, she was punishing my mother. It’s not easy to understand and that wasn’t the sole reason, but I absolutely get what you are saying.

Totally agree. Seems like public self harm “look what you made me do” type of thing.

A lot of eating disorders are a way of maintaining control when your life feels out of control. It’s difficult to balance and even harder to break

As a huge Audrey Hepburn fan, I always want to point out that she looked the way she did because she was starved under N*zi occupation in her teen years. Her health was never the same. She's a beautiful woman but our goal should never be to look like her.

And people don’t get that it’s not RATIONAL. She likely doesn’t know that’s why she’s relapsing into this. Her brain isn’t working right.

Anosognosia is a hallmark of AN. She truly cannot comprehend how seriously in danger she is. I almost lost a ten year old. She’s 26 thriving in recovery. But it took years.

This is so true, it’s so clear. I can relate so deeply to this, food when you have no control over your life remains the one thing you can control, it feels good for someone who has life without control

I think it got worse when everyone publicly criticized her affair. Almost like”you want to see what happens when you push someone too far?”

a big part of my eating disorder was trying to prove to everyone around me that i was sick and to have them worried about me so i can understand how she might be thinking

There’s a lot of rage behind an ED (or, from experience, at least behind ana)… it might look like sadness but at the core it is rage

When I had anorexia, I was simultaneously desperately trying to disappear and desperately trying to be seen. It took me over a decade of introspection to come to that conclusion.

THIS. As someone who’s still in active recovery from anorexia, I can fully confirm this. No one talks about how anorexia can become a form of control(and even vengeance)in an environment where you have none whatsoever. That’s one of the reasons it’s so common among daughters who grew up in dysfunctional families.
For me, it’s not only visible internalized shame and addiction, but also the highest form of violence toward yourself. The moment you can’t direct that anger outward, you turn it inward. And like you said, unless you’ve lived it, you won’t truly understand it.

I really do think the this the right take, if you haven’t experienced an ED you don’t know that most of the time it’s not about what you look like, its about control. when I was at my sickest I had a lot of issues with myself, but I SO BADLY wanted to prove to everyone that I was sick to the point where they couldn’t ignore me anymore. EDs are so complicated it’s not just about weight. ALSO lily collins is well known for having a public ED (she was in that movie about EDs that was triggering) so I wouldn’t be shocked if that also set ari off
