@ufdtech: Constant public surveillance actually ISN’T helping - like, at all Those Flock cameras everyone hates have a headquarters based in Atlanta, and it’s one of the most heavily monitored cities by the data thieves - I mean, company And since they have a deal with the city to cover the place with their cameras in order to deter crimes - their clearance rates should’ve decreased since that all started a few years back, right? Well, no. It’s actually barely changed in either direction in the past half a decade, and Flock’s stopped publicly reporting clearance rates since then - presumably because of precisely this reason There’s a few percentage points of wiggle room in either direction for different categories of crimes - but for the most part people seem to either just be avoiding the cameras before doing bad stuff, or just disregarding them entirely - and the people paying for it the most are the ones NOT doing anything wrong that’re getting spied on day in and day out

well, managing crime isn't the main goal of flock cameras anyway

we're all siblings, we'll fight and get mad at each other, but when mom and dad start questioning we don't snitch and we watch out for each other

Cameras won’t stop, prevent, or reduce crime. They just make it easier to catch people. So crime rates should go up because more are going reported and captured.

Instead of surveillance why don’t they stop releasing criminals and keep them there for life?

it's almost as if crime prevention is only possible by addressing societal inequalities and not via authoritative/punitive measures. who would have guessed it.

I have a feeling it’s more for keeping track of people and crime is just what they advertised to get people to allow it

So is the footage being use to find or stop crimes at all? if no then we should be holding them accountable. Make them do that work or sue them if they unwilling to stop a robbery.

I mean flock is the term for a group of sheep. They think we are sheep.

that is what I was wondering about because they push that they detour crime but myself I did security equipment as a side job and cameras and other devices never seemed to detour crime it just stayed about the same regardless.

Doesn't help that their system is so easy to hack into even with their new 2 step authentication. There's people "allegedly" just getting into the system and using it themselves or deleting months worth of footage from their database.
