I think it starts sooner than that, it starts from our mothers, trying to mold us into the man that is dependent on her, constantly trying to look for her approval and quieting any masculine traits that could be off-putting to that mother. for example ruff housing or simply articulate your position as a 17-year-old your taught just to comply with her request
