@climate.news4: July 31, 2026 Campi Flegrei Region, Italy A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck the Campi Flegrei volcanic caldera, west of Naples, this evening. According to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the epicenter was at a depth of approximately 3 km. The tremors were felt throughout Naples and the surrounding area. Power outages occurred in several areas, and the Cumana and Circumflegrea train and metro lines were temporarily suspended for infrastructure checks. Minor damage to buildings, falling plaster and debris, were reported, and in the town of Pozzuoli, a section of a tuff slope collapsed, damaging a car and a motorcycle. According to preliminary reports, eight people suffered minor injuries, and there were no fatalities. Italian media are calling this the strongest earthquake to hit the Campi Flegrei region in 40 years. Authorities continue to assess damage and monitor seismic activity.
