Everyone has a victim complex these days! I told someone I was going on holiday and their response was “lucky you I haven’t been away in 8 years” … like as if I’d won the holiday and not worked and paid for it?! 😅

Comparative suffering / Pain Olympics ….. it’s tedious the world allows two people to experience pain / distress / loss / sadness at the same time. Someone’s own circumstances does not negate that of another. A stark example is when your train comes to a stop for three hours because of another persons tragic actions in front of that train and you miss your flight to your holiday. You’re still perfectly reasonable in being very upset about that.

I loved that post of yours, it’s really inspired me and my partner to stop referring to our house as our “starter house” and we’ve fallen in love with it all over again! The thought of leaving it in the future makes us so sad! We’d rather have a smaller mortgage and travel!

Well said!! Everyone is different and has DIFFERENT circumstances and that doesn’t mean because you had family to go back to it wasn’t hard. I loved the post as someone who has also made the decision to stay in the home we have and prioritise living, saving and over paying our mortgage rather than stretching our income just to look like we have a certain way of life that social media makes you feel like you should have. We need more of this!!!!

You dont owe anyone an explanation, I like you have a 2 up 2 down small house and like you said you become conditioned to wanting bigger and what you perceive as better.
