as an ariana grande fan for many years, i feel like i need to say something. i’ve supported her for so long. i’ve been to her concerts, i collect her vinyls, her perfumes, everything related to wicked, and i continue to support her music and her work with the same love i’ve always had. over the years i’ve seen thousands of comments about her body. every single time it’s the same thing: “she’s too skinny,” “she’s dying,” “someone needs to help her,” “it’s obvious she’s not okay.” and what hurts me the most is that so many people think these comments are justified just because they come from a place of “concern.” they’re not. constantly commenting on someone’s body doesn’t become acceptable just because you claim you’re worried. a lot of people think fans defend ariana because we’re blind, because we refuse to see reality, or because we idolize her. but that’s not the point. the point is that ariana’s body is not a public discussion. neither hers nor anyone else’s should be. we should be following ariana because of her music, her voice, her talent, and the art she creates, not because we’re analyzing every inch of her body, every picture, every video, and every public appearance. we don’t know what’s going on in her life. we don’t know how she’s really doing. we don’t know if she’s dealing with a health issue, if that’s simply her natural body, or if she’s going through a difficult time. and because we don’t know, we should learn to stay quiet. if someone truly needs help, millions of strangers commenting on their body online won’t be the ones to help them. if anything, those comments can make things even worse. ariana is an adult. she’s surrounded by her family, the people she loves, and professionals. if there’s something concerning her health, it’s not our place to speculate about it. our job, as fans and as human beings, should simply be to respect her. and this applies to everyone, not just ariana.
