this was well said. i dont like how people attack some of these idols, saying they promote the 'diet' culture when they themselves are victims of it. its very hard to get rid of a toxic mindset especially if you were in it at a younger age and grew with it. and instead of trying to raise concerns, people make jokes about it. i know that those twt and tiktok ppl r just a minority and nothing outside, but we all live in the digital world. they could also be hearing and reading this

I believe that something that exacerbates the problem is that when you're surrounded by people who think that way, it's very difficult not to think that way. If your friends think that way, at some point in your life you'll normalize it or even adopt it as your own belief, and that's dangerous

My MIL (she’s Korean) is already telling my husband that I need to lose weight (I’m 38 weeks pregnant), and he had to stand up for me and say “SHES PREGNANT! SHE’LL LOSE THE WEIGHT ANYWAY, JUST WAIT!” Like thank you sir. I’m very aware of how much I gained, I do plan on getting back to my healthier weight, and I just don’t need people pointing out that I gained too much weight 😭

i know officially its a “mutual decision” but a 16 year old’s brain is still developing they just dont have the mental capacity to even understand the meaning of what theyre doing or what it does to their bodies long term. obviously i’m sort of preaching to the choir but ugh, these poor girls.

it's not a mutual decision. It's coercion. They're teens and there's a very unbalanced power dynamic at place when your company comes to you teeling you to do these procedures. Teens who started training and having their lives micromanaged by the industry as early as 9yo, sometimes having no contact with their parents, being groomed to not second guess or question the system, sometimes even going as far to verbal, physical abuse and restraint of access to food. 😒 i think we downplay too much how vile and malicious the kpop industry really is at it's core and we put too much of the blame on the victims, these girls are being exploited to filth. Not even to name the slave contract of it all, what do you mean you debt bound and have to work for free while the company profits of your likeness and labor? thats insane, debt bondage is considered modern day slavery and punished by law in my country

They were young, impressionable and receiving a "suggestion" from the people who can fulfill your dream you are more willing to accept these things as the reality of the industry. It's messed up but in no way would I fault the artists for thinking it is normal.

What I hate about these korean standards is that they bring it everywhere. Im in a local beach here and there are korean tourist. They started saying mwoya mwoya just because im curvy and wearing bikini. There is a place for that attitude but it is not here.
