@aussiemammoth1: As our parents grow older, our duty to them only increases. Serving them is not just about providing food or a roof over their heads. It is about preserving their dignity in every way. That includes helping them groom themselves when they can no longer do it on their own. One of the saddest things I see is washing an elderly person who was clearly not cared for in their final days. When you reach old age, even simple things like cutting your nails, trimming your hair, or looking after your hygiene can become difficult. That is where the children step in. This is part of honouring your parents. Allah says in the Qur’an, “And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be good to your parents.” (Surah Al-Isra 17:23) Looking after our parents is not a burden. It is an honour and a privilege that many wish they could have again. One day, the hands that cared for you will need your hands to care for them. May Allah grant us the ability to honour our parents while they are still with us, have mercy on those who have returned to Him, and make us children who fulfil their rights. our father never showed us love. never touched us with affection
.it was always torture terror abuse and beatings. now we do keep an eye on all his needs, help him with his requirements when he but to physically touch him to groom him it doesn't come easily to us. the trauma physically stops us.

I painted my mom's nails days before she passed.... And did her make up together with my sister after she passed.
(of course it was before I converted to Islam, alone)

I shaved my father as he lay deceased before he was collected. He was dressed in clean clothes by others with modesty . We couldn’t find socks ……my brother stepped out if his shoes , removed his socks and placed them on him, then stepped back sockless into his shoes. This is showing great respect to our father even though he was a very stern hard man to ever know, yet, amongst all of that he did love us. He found it hard to tell us all seven children.

Its hard to groom parents sometimes, as they come to a position where they get really angry and annoyed and just dont want to be touched.
