Had a conversation with my ex years back about going blind. I said it would fundamentally change nearly every aspect of our lives & we couldn't predict how that would turn out. She was pissed for MONTHS. She wanted reassurance that our love would conquer all but I took it as a real scenario & really thought it through. Sometimes they just want reassurance, not a realistic breakdown of reality.

For those in a fairly happy relationship and your partner asks you this question the only acceptable response is “there is no after you”. Even if you don’t mean it. I know you will move on during the funeral but your partner don’t need to die knowing that.

honestly... weird. first of all... 3 years... he didn't hop into bed the day after the funeral. second... he is a man. does she REALLY THINK if he wanted someone else he would wait until she died? she would be the one to date after he died and then be like "oh he would want me to be happy". that's crazy

Well, at least he waited until she was dead. My now late MIL was caring for my now late FIl. One of their good friends from CHURCH moved in to help her. They git married a couple months after he does. The kids were all ok with it. I was and AM still horrified.

It’s not realistic to expect your spouse to stay single for the rest of their life. NO ONE can be replaced. Replacing someone is acting as if the next person you’re with is an exact replica to the person before, which is impossible. You can replace things, a cup, a bike, not a person.

My mum and dad were together for 47 years when my mum passed away. He moved on within 6 months 😔 I understand both sides but I understand how the wife feels.
