I feel like nobody really explains how weird nighttime motherhood can feel. During the day I’m usually okay. There’s noise everywhere. Bottles on the counter. Laundry I’m pretending I don’t see 😂 Someone texting me. Baby noises. Maybe I get outside. Maybe another adult actually speaks to me lol. Then 3am happens. The whole house is dark. Everyone is sleeping. And suddenly it feels like there are only two people left on earth…me and this tiny baby who has absolutely NO interest in going back to sleep 😭 A few nights ago my baby woke up and I swear we tried everything. Fed. Changed. Burped. Rocked. Walked around the room. Rocked again. Did that weird mom bounce where you’re basically doing squats without realizing it 😂 Nothing. By 3:00 I was exhausted. By 3:10 I was frustrated with myself for being frustrated. By 3:20 I was convinced I was doing something wrong. And by 3:30 I was standing there holding my baby thinking how can I love someone this much and also desperately need them to PLEASE GO TO SLEEP 😭😂 That part of motherhood is so hard to explain. You can be completely obsessed with your baby and still feel overwhelmed. You can be grateful and miserable at the exact same time. You can know this phase won’t last forever and still feel like the current night might actually never end. Anyway, I was scrolling on my phone with one hand while rocking with the other because apparently that’s a skill I have now lol. I opened this app I’d seen that has a map of moms. And there were little lights everywhere. Moms awake RIGHT THEN. Not moms who posted something six hours ago. Not some perfect motherhood account showing me a morning routine that starts at 5am 😂 Just moms who were awake too. Feeding babies. Pumping. Rocking. Trying to survive another wakeup. And idk why but seeing them made me feel calmer. Then there’s this thing where you can basically send another mom a little hug. ❤️ I sent one. A mom from Ireland sent one back. IRELAND 😭 I’m standing in my dark nursery at 3:14 in the morning looking absolutely feral, holding a baby who refuses to sleep… and somewhere across the ocean another mom is awake too. She doesn’t know me. I don’t know her. We’ll probably never meet. But for a tiny second it felt like somebody was sitting there saying: “Yep. Me too.” And apparently that was exactly what I needed. Because I wasn’t looking for advice. I didn’t need someone telling me wake windows or suggesting another swaddle or asking if I’d tried putting the baby down drowsy but awake 🙃😂 I just wanted someone else to understand what that moment felt like. Eventually my baby fell asleep. I stood there WAY too long before attempting the crib transfer because we all know you cannot trust a newborn who has been asleep for 90 seconds 😂 Then somehow I got the baby down. I crawled into bed. And I kept thinking about that mom in Ireland. And all the other little lights I had seen. It made me realize how many of us are doing this exact same thing every single night without ever seeing each other. There’s a mom staring at a bottle warmer right now. A mom pumping while her husband sleeps. A mom walking laps around her bedroom. A mom googling “why won’t my newborn sleep” for the 47th time even though she already knows every answer 😂 A mom crying. A mom laughing because she’s so tired she’s officially lost it. A mom looking at the clock thinking, “how is it ONLY 3:26??” We’re all in separate houses, separate cities, even separate countries. But we’re awake together. 🥹❤️ And I think sometimes that’s all I need at 3am. Not somebody to fix it. Just a reminder that somewhere else, another mom is awake too. Doing her best. Waiting for morning. Just like me. ❤️🥹 #mom #baby #MomsofTikTok #momtok #momlife
