Whatever psychological traits people have, the people who are willing to lie, manipulate, backstab and fake tend to get an edge over more honest individual (at least in the short run). The anti-soviet unions also had the notion of a "useful idiot": someone willing to compromise their value for a reward, and used by someone else to do the dirty work. Think someone hiring someone else to kill.

Another thing is that this explanation leaves out patriarchy in tribes that are not white, nor colonizers, doesn't have large institutions, etc. This is the mainstream patriarchy but I don't know if the same explanation applies for patriarchy everywhere else.

I'm mostly inclined to disregard claims about sociopathy, narcissism, and others like that because I'm not entirely sure what we know about the prevalence of those traits match the number of perpetrators in any gender. I'll look it up, but I have no memory of hearing about a paper that proposed that sociopathy or narcissism are traits most perpetrators have been diagnosed with.
