@degournay: Our hand-painted scenic design, ‘The Hedges’, is a bespoke tribute to the newly reimagined Hedges Inn - East Hampton’s beloved hotel dating to 1873 - capturing the beauty of its setting in a richly detailed panorama of the flora, fauna and familiar landmarks that define both the historic property and its surrounding landscape. Created with hotelier Sarah Wetenhall and designer David Netto, ‘The Hedges’ evokes the quintessential character of the East End: windswept dunes give way to lush, sweeping lawns, framing depictions of cherished local landmarks: from the inn’s distinctive façade to other treasured emblems of the area. Beyond, an idyllic coastline draws the eye towards clear waters bordered by finely rendered seaside grasses, their slender fronds appearing to sway in the ocean breeze. Installed within the hotel’s lobby, the design sits naturally within an interior imbued with a profound sense of place, further rooting the space in the landscape and history of East Hampton. Netto approached the hotel with the intimacy and character of a private home, preserving its storied spirit through an assemblage of antique and vintage pieces. These charming finds sit alongside deeply personal touches, including an artwork by his godfather, the fabric designer Alan Campbell, once displayed in the home of Netto’s parents.
