@socratessworld1: Immigration Fact-Check 051 🇬🇧 New Immigration Rules came into effect TODAY, 3 August 2026. Here’s everything that changed. 1) SUSPENDED SENTENCES: a suspended sentence of 12 months or more now carries the SAME consequences as an actual custodial sentence of 12+ months for visa applications. 2) ASYLUM SEEKERS: the safeguard allowing further information after a missed interview has been removed — the Home Office can now disregard this if they determine the asylum basis is unfounded. 3) IMMIGRATION BAIL FIX (good news): if your application was refused and came with immigration bail, you can NOW still apply within the 14-day grace period even as an overstayer — previously bail blocked this entirely. 4) SKILLED WORKER TRANSITIONAL PROTECTION: previously only those who’d already SUBMITTED their application before the 2027/2028 cut-offs were protected. Now, anyone who already had a CoS issued before the cut-off — even if they hadn’t yet submitted their application — is also covered. 5) CHILDREN’S SETTLEMENT: a child can now apply to settle with a CLOSE RELATIVE (uncle, aunt, grandparent) who is present and settled in the UK, even with no parent present — PROVIDED that relative is the only person available to care for the child (e.g., both parents deceased or otherwise unavailable).
