Every medical decision is based on the patient sitting in front of us and their unique risk factors. We do this every day based on age, prematurity, underlying medical conditions, medications, and yes, vaccination status. For an unvaccinated infant, the risk of certain serious infections is higher. The overall risk may still be low, but if a more cautious evaluation, closer follow-up, or additional testing can reduce the chance of missing a life-threatening illness, that’s the approach we’re trained to take. No pediatrician wants your baby to become the first case that reminds us why those precautions exist. This isn’t about punishment. It’s not about judgment. It’s about using the best evidence we have to protect the child in front of us. Vaccination status doesn’t change how much we care about a child. Not sure how it’s any different from a doctor dropping a client for being non-compliant with treatment. I specifically chose a pediatrician and daycare that require vaccines

I work urgent care in a very rural community that has a large number of un vaccinated children. I swear my heart drops when I see one because they could literally have ANYTHING in the books and they are sitting in the lobby next to very elderly or babies too young to vaccinate. 😭

Yes, if there isn't literature otherwise, the patient is in front of you and you should use your best judgement (they could have chosen different doctor.) That judgement should include presence/absence of patient factors. Heck, it could even include parent's noncompliant behavior.
