when my daughter was a teen, she was raped. we called the police that evening. we had to drive to a bizarre "medical" building and waited in our car 2 hours while the cop waiting in their car. finally the professionals arrived. the entire interview, inspection, and physical evidence collection was trama filled. at this point, my daughter had been crying for about 8 hours. i wanted to scream. the nurse or whomever was doing the physical collection was using kind words but the uniform police officers were saying things that made it seem like they were thinking my daughters rape was consensual- she lead him on and she didn't scream load enough! we do not believe that rape kit has ever been sent to the lab. ridiculous.

As horrendous as it sounds, I'll never report again should I be so unfortunate a second time. I'm now 38, at the time i was 11, and required surgery to repair the damage done. He served 2 years. *for me* the reporting and legal process was terrifying, dehumanizing, and not worth the insulting injustice that was the outcome. I'm so sorry for what you went through.
