The first attack was not an actual invasion. The account is that the NPFL use to trade looted items from Liberia with our soldiers along the border. It was a common occurrence. However on a particular occasion a commander in the NPFL brought a Hilux to sell and a senior Sierra Leonean Military Officer took the Van but refused to pay. The account alleged that the NPFL commander made several attempts to get his Van back if the officer could not pay for it even going through the chief. The refusal to return the van culminated into the NPFL rebel commander mobilizing his boys to attack Bo.aru town. The attack took place and several soldiers, and people were killed including the officer who took the Van but refused to pay. So the firstly attack was not actually RUF. It is possible that the said attack embolden the actual invasion.
