@pinknews: Horror icon and unwavering LGBTQ+ ally Matthew Lillard has spoken about his new project, Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’ TV series, and how he connects to the story as the father of a non-binary child. “This material resonates with me not only because I’m a girl dad, but because I’m a father not only of a girl but a boy and a non-binary kid,” he told Entertainment Weekly at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. “This story resonates with me because I myself am an outsider, right? I grew up with a severe learning disability, I was an obese teenager, transplanted from Detroit, Michigan, to Orange County, California, and I never felt like I fit in.” He continued: “Those of us who have always felt on the outside looking in, we see ourselves represented. And it’s the story of this incredibly powerful and happy and buoyant and hopeful young woman who steps into this vicious world of bullying. As I’m watching those episodes, I feel seen and I feel connected to her journey.” Lillard then expanded on his comments about fatherhood. “Being the father of a queer kid, you’re like, all you want to do is protect that kid and allow them to rise up out of the moment they’re in through high school and let them be their best selves as they get past this gauntlet called high school in America.” #matthewlillard #lgbtq #parenthood #nonbinarypride #carrie
