As part of my freelance marketing contracts :) there was clear top 3 nationalities that needed to be main focus because they were top spenders in with that established designer house 🙏🏻 as you said there are plenty of others to also consider as part of the target 💕

As an Emirati with short hair, i don’t think I’ve seen a single ad with someone with edgier or androgynous style.. so boring

I’m Emirati and I used to be an influencer, with almost 20k followers across different sm platforms, ironically I was almost never invited to “Emirati” events yet people cosplaying as Emirati’s were always invited 😂 even when I used to offer modeling for campaigns and gave my insights they would still do the exact opposite 🤷🏻♀️and get a model who’s obviously not even arab and wrap her in a badly fitted Abaya and Shayla like a Halloween costume

I also feel that UAE wants to keep that reputation of “white , polished, expensive looking face” in market . I hope I’m wrong

Am local and I feel influenced to campaigns in Europe and USA more than the ones here..it’s because people managing those campaigns didn’t study the market..and they do work in media but they know nothing about fashion and beauty

Having been on the European market and having done global campaigns, selling out products and understanding what real influence means (both as a Content Creator and Management Owner) I was expecting more when i came to the market in the UAE - I was expecting a more faceted/progressive approach to marketing. I think it has a lot to do with the expertise of the people in marketing - it’s a lot of first timers, which is good in some ways, but lacks depth in the other. I think there will come a time where it has to be restructured - the market has so much potential, but I agree - I see a lot of polished campaigns over and over, that look the same - nice content, yes, but with zero to no impact. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 🙏🏼

I totally agree. The community and the mindset make all the difference. Can we create one that truly embraces diversity?

It’s because most of the people making those decisions are either 1) uninformed 2) not online enough OR 3) scared shitless of doing anything perceived as ‘different.’ Most of the time it’s all 3 reasons

Finally someone said it. The marketing trend here it’s too monotone that we don’t even bother to look at it twice because 90% can’t even relate. So why bother.

I completely agree. As someone who’s been creating content in the UAE for the past year and a half, I’ve noticed that many campaigns still rely on the same faces or bring creators from abroad instead of supporting local talent.
I’ve lived in Dubai for 23 years, so this is home. I understand the culture, what resonates with people here, and how to create content for this audience. Yet many brands still choose creators with limited GCC audiences to represent campaigns in the region prioritizing numbers 🤭
The UAE is incredibly diverse, I hope campaigns start reflecting that more authentically.

As a marketing manager it’s not just the beauty industry. I work with government, and when agencies pitch influencers for campaigns they always pitch the same people. It’s lazy. They don’t do any market research or try to bring us fresh faces. And if we ask for local talent, they’ll always pitch the same 2 people because they have no idea about the local influencer market

I would also say we need more artistic and thoughtful campaigns. Art always adds soul, whether to a brand, a place, or a campaign. I’ve been creating content in Dubai for 10+ years and still I feel brands continue to prioritize the usual lifestyle influencers over more unique and niche ones that could bring a creative spin to things. The brands I collaborated with were not art related brands, it’s about bringing a unique artistic approach that will be remembered and I think we need much more of that. There are many locally raised/based talented artists and creatives and all that creativity could be wayyy more utilized, which would not only give a brand an interesting creative campaign, but would also be supporting the arts and creative sector of the country as well as showing that they care to really dive in and engage meaningfully with the grassroots culture.
