I see you have a lot of nay-sayers, but I completely agree with you. "Just don't say it" NO, some things stay within the family and they just need to learn that.

I don’t know man, I wouldn’t be bothered by the tattoo in 2026. They are becoming more and more common for younger people and tattoos do not mean people are bad. So no, I wouldn’t tell my child to not hang out with someone because of a tattoo. I don’t judge people because there ain’t nothing perfect about me.

I would always tell my son “HOME BUSINESS” which meant under NO circumstances is this to be shared outside of these four walls..or the car😬.

What about the conversation that should be made to the parents not to judge another child or another child’s parent by one minor thing that they do not know the history of. For example you don’t know that that child didn’t have a sibling who died and they just wanted a tattoo in remembrance of their sibling. Having a tattoo does not make a child bad or wild and believing that is being judgmental.

Or we could just not judge each other… maybe.

My daughter didn’t have a tattoo (yet) but she wore clothes (emo rock) that was different from the “pretty girls” and those “pretty girls” teased her incessantly because of how she dressed. This was in church youth group and the leader of the “pretty girls” was the pastor’s granddaughter. My daughter has not come back to to God since.

Or perhaps parents can just say they’re not comfortable with that and leave it there. Adults judge and bully kids way too often.

My one kid can’t keep home business so therefore he doesn’t get to know nothing.

I would just not say things about people you aren’t willing to say to their face… saying “keep secret between these walls” … breeds kids keeping secrets when they are told to and can be harmful if SA ever happens or something that one parent should know but the other parent says “keep secret”

So then how do you expect the child to explain to the other kid why they can’t be friends? I’d like to see how you’d handle advising that conversation.

Sorry I glitched at “tattoo at 12 years old” but either way, the kid is going to have to tell the friend something when she’s no longer able to hang out. Perhaps teaching “honesty without tact is just brutality” or whatever the saying is. If the parents are going to cut off the relationship then they need to help the kid through the whole process, from beginning to end) which includes how to communicate it to the cutoff friend.

Good kids can make bad choices sometimes. Some are worse than others. Maybe give the kid a shot and see for yourself , invite them to church or make a diner . Make a choice in their character and not what’s on their skin.

Parents need to keep their opinions to themselves and stop shamming other children . Just say I said you can't play with them the end

I learned to phrase it as "that's not a choice I agree with for you, but..."
-it doesnt make them a bad kid
-it doesnt mean they have bad parents
-it doesn't mean you will get one

i kinda disagree, i agree with having concerns but the approach was wrong. i think showing this kid your values and teaching them a different family dynamic would be far more helpful. also let it be a learning experience for your daughter to learn her values/boundaries at a young age. its not mom vs friend. it’s how can i have this friendship and still hold my raising/decision-making. but still being overseen/controlled environment by mom.
