Raiff writes the almost-romance with rare honesty, two people meeting at the wrong times of their lives, offering each other proof of what they need rather than what they can keep, while Leslie Mann glows as Andrew's bipolar mother in a subplot of quiet grace. This is coming-of-age storytelling that understands growing up is mostly learning which loves are lessons. What makes it a must-see is the sincerity. No cynicism, no irony armor, just a film brave enough to be completely openhearted about being lost.
