Dear Marian Friends, I warmly greet you and wish you a blessed Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Today, Mother Church celebrates one of the greatest feasts in honor of our Blessed Mother. It is a Holy Day of Obligation, and therefore every Catholic is called to participate in Holy Mass unless prevented by a serious reason such as illness. The Catholic Church, in her wisdom, gives us precepts (ebiragiro bya Eklezia) to guide our spiritual lives. Among them is the obligation to celebrate Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. These days of obligation include Christmas, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Ascension of Our Lord, Uganda Martyrs' Day, and All Saints' Day. Today is one of those sacred days when the Church invites us to lift our minds and hearts beyond this passing world and contemplate the glory that God has prepared for His faithful people. Some people confuse the Ascension of Jesus with the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Although both involve entering heavenly glory, they are not the same. In the Ascension, Jesus Christ rises into Heaven by His own divine power, as the Son of God. In the Assumption, Mary is taken body and soul into Heaven by the power of God because she is His faithful servant and a created being. Christ ascends by His own authority; Mary is assumed through God's gracious gift. The Assumption, therefore, does not make Mary equal to Christ but reveals what God's grace can accomplish in one who completely surrenders to Him. Today's readings beautifully explain why the Church celebrates this feast with such joy. First, where are we going? The Assumption reminds us that Heaven is our true home. Mary's Assumption is not simply a privilege given to one person; it is a promise of our own destiny if we remain faithful. Throughout Scripture, God has shown His power over death. Enoch walked with God and was taken by Him. Elijah was carried into Heaven in a fiery chariot. But Mary's Assumption is unique because she enters heavenly glory, body and soul, as the Mother of the Redeemer and the first disciple of Christ. Her Assumption encourages us never to lose sight of eternity. The reality of Heaven should transform the way we live. Too many people spend their entire lives chasing money, power, pleasure, and recognition as though this world were permanent. Kyemulina okumanya every funeral reminds us that nothing earthly lasts forever. Mary's Assumption tells us that the treasures worth seeking are holiness, charity, humility, and faithfulness. If Heaven is truly our destination, then forgiveness becomes more important than revenge, generosity more valuable than selfishness, and holiness more precious than popularity. Secondly, what must we do? Mary teaches us the way. Immediately after saying

A genuine encounter with God always sends us to serve others. Like Mary, we are called to carry Christ wherever we go, into our families, workplaces, schools, communities, and friendships. Many people today know about Jesus but have never experienced His love through another person. We become His presence by acts of kindness, forgiveness, compassion, honesty, and joyful witness. Finally, who walks with us? Mary's Assumption assures us that we are never alone. She has not abandoned the Church. Having been assumed into heavenly glory, she continues to intercede for her children. Just as she accompanied Jesus throughout His earthly life from Bethlehem to Calvary, she now accompanies the Church through her maternal prayers. Above all, Christ Himself remains with us. He is present in His Word, in the Eucharist, in the sacraments, in His Church, and in every act of charity. *May the Blessed Virgin Mary, assumed body and soul into Heaven, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.
