What a privilege it must be to tell people they don't need Mounjaro, Ozempic, or Wegovy. Clearly you have never had a legitimate off-label need and had to fight to get it. No amount of "loving yourself" was ever going to help my wife manage her PMOS the way a GLP-1 has. She lost 30 lbs the hard way over the course of years but couldn't lose any more, even with the meds available and the help of a dietician and endocrinologist. The level of exercise, diet, and caloric restriction required simply was not sustainable by the admission of her own healthcare team who do very much care about her. This is nothing like the opioid epidemic and I think it's a poor comparison. Pharma companies are not hawking cheap, harmful, addictive drugs at poor people through shady back channels like they were with opioids in West Virginia. They are targeting expensive GLP-1s at relatively wealthy people who can afford to pay what they want to charge leaving many who could benefit unable to afford them. Don't get me wrong, I understand the healthy skepticism of the motives of pharmaceutical companies, but limiting access to GLP-1s is not warranted. In fact, one off label use for these drugs is treatment of substance use disorder - exactly the kind exacerbated by the opioid epidemic you use as a comparison. In order to get them without an on-label diagnosis, you have to have hundreds in extra money a month and access to the kind of primary care that comes withiving in a well off area. The only reason we are able to afford my wife's meds now is because I landed a union job with the best pay and insurance I've ever had. Before that, we could not afford it even though we knew she would benefit. I'm sorry the ads are annoying to you though. 🙄

I genuinely want to understand how that group of people who were against getting a jab during cov!d, are okay with the monthly jabbing of a glp1. To me I'm super weary of all pharmaceutical so I don't trust all these companies.

DING DING DING!!!! from a pharmacist. Ive gone from learning the GLP-1s were a good choice for diabetics that could benefit from weightloss (the weightloss was seen as a positive side effect) and damn did the marketing change quick once they realized how much they could make.

Crazy how companies can’t make enough adhd meds for people or regulate them to make sure each pill is the same, but we can make it so each person in America can access glp-1s, even offering services to argue w your insurance on your behalf so they’ll cover it.

dude, and it's so crazy how the side effects of GLP-1s are being downplayed. Legitimately, not hyperbolically, Every single person I personally know on a GLP-1 has had nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. Which is impacting their quality of life and ability to participate in social gatherings, because they can barely eat for several weeks at a time after starting and increasing doses. Like that's not a normal side effect!! Unconcerning side effects should be mild and annoying, not intrusive to your life! I really worry about the long term side effects, not just because the drug itself, but the overall promotion of rapid weight loss which is generally not entirely safe.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and the number of people trying to convince me to get on glp-1s to treat my RA is insane. Mind you, none of them are in the medical field. But it’s constant 😳 and it’s worth noting that I’m already underweight from meds

You’re comparing apples and traffic cones. People got hooked on opiates because they get you high. Glps don’t get you high, and there’s also a plateau beyond which there’s nothing to gain from taking more. Will people abuse them? Of course, people abuse Advil ffs. But there’s no real comparison between the two. This is just fear mongering for clicks
