As someone who really enjoyed BND these points about Jean are pretty undeniable. They went way too hard on trying to convince the audience that Jean was the villain and as a result...actually made Jean the villain.

The SA part is very Jean Grey unironically. Young Jean is very naive and would not register that crossing boundaries like that is wrong. Jumping off a building/setting off the Hulk/Driving a tank through the city is something she would never do even with the Phoenix

Your overall point is correct she’s not morally gray she’s a villain. Probably setting her up for an arc. It’s heavily hinted (in some timelines) Jean is out of control and abuses her powers before Xavier meets her. I think that’s what this is meant to be.

THANK YOU. The further I get away from BND the more I dislike it. It was a meandering mess with too many characters underserved. And it RUINED Jean Grey for the MCU. She’s an outright villain. I’m very disappointed. Life long X-Men fan since 92. Disheartened to say the least.

I genuinely think the people that defend her are outing themselves, basically admitting that if their family was taken they’d do similar things. I saw waaayy too many comments implying that under your last video. They struggle to understand that motivation ≠ Justification.

The way she went straight to terrorism instead of just infiltrating the DODC building using her jumping powers makes the character a completely irredeemable psychopath IMO. Her powers literally give her a way to enter the building undetected and search for her sister, but instead she does terrorism and puts hundreds of lives in danger

Yea she did completely SA Peter and killed people I get the criticism 😭😭. If they made it so she had the phoenix force based on the trauma for losing her sister it would’ve made the character arc so much better

I’m so sick of woman in media just being portrayed as evil due to suffering or manipulation. This is very common not just in marvel but also in DC. It’s like with female superheroes they either have to be super compassionate or super evil. This is why I like characters like Jessica Jones, Sue Storm, or even Lois Lane. They are characters that are compassionate but also are badass. It’s like we only get nuance with characters that are male and female characters are either reduced to the love interest compassionate kind, the strong and masculine kind, or the evil kind. This is personally why I don’t like Wonder Woman because behind the very much good influence she has had on femininity, she feels reduced to just a strong woman that always nice and sometimes badass and doesn’t have any of the nuance or flaws women face on the daily.

killing DODC guards, throwing MJ of a building with Peter right there, and holding thousands of people hostage (only in the context of what happened immediately before) I can understand but the rest of it I can’t get. Walking a guy in front of a car? Making a guy fall off a building? Bombing a DODC detention centre with possibly wrongfully incarcerated inmates? The entire tank scene? How many innocent people had to die for her to find Sarah? I’m also not looking past hoe Peter didn’t seem to care about innocents either (except for a cop for some reason? because they’re obviously always of more value than the average civilian)

I mean yea she’s a villian but to act like she didn’t have a motive is insane it’s not an excuse on her actions but she’s had a reason. Like she’s a kid 1 why are we acting like kids are ever good at expressing or controlling their emotions? She also had her mom leave her and the only person she cared about was taken so yea talking to Spider-Man’s aunt is goin to mean something she just wanted somebody to care about her she needed guidance

I loved Jean as a villain, but as someone who I’m supposed to like later on she’s a terrible character. Her whole story in this movie feels like a very shallow take on the morality of revenge and vindictiveness.

She fucked with Peter for the fun of it.... she meets Spidey while possessing a guard... literally meets the widely known good guy superhero and didn't ask for help. Goes on to do all that shit with no regard for anyone. Peter loses a loved one and uses that trauma to be better and save people, be a hero. Jean loses a loved one and that's the excuse to wreck a city, injure innocent people and cause untold problems for every one. What could have happened if Jean lost control of Hulk and he destroyed the city???
