like so many moms, everything ended up on her plate. even during the worst of times, she was in charge of getting the baby to sleep, getting the kids medical care, planning birthdays, coordinating with babysitters, getting and coordinating and documenting her own care, making or ordering dinner, financially contributing and being financially responsible, and more.

Hearing her journal entries made me think of myself 6.5 years ago when my son was a baby and I was struggling so much. It makes me realize how casually we look at postpartum when it’s an incredibly difficult time for many women

She was doing all of things. She was a nurse. Her job required her to document everything, and her job helped her recognize she was not ok. I don't think anyone expected a complete break in reality. I think the fear was there, but she was doing all of the things she was supposed to be doing. I truly believe the mental health system failed to recognize the symptoms. Patients can only use their own vocabulary and understanding to express what is happening and it is the doctor's job to help put pieces together.

- I truly believe the psychologists from the hospital helped the defense more than the prosecution intended! She wasn’t trying to get help, she was ACTIVELY reaching out. So so sad.

This woman tried to hard, she asked for help from anyone who would listen. She did all of the right things. She literally begged for help. The lack of sleep itself is maddening. Add to that a newborn, two older children and a husband who also need her. I sympathize so much with her.
