it's weird people think a chicken would just let you hold them if they didnt want it..they're a lot like cats in that aspect, will claw, flap their wings and bite to get away if they dont want it.

with many people saying she's purring, that isn't true, she is either in distress or is dehydrated. Her mouth is wide open because she's panting, and the "purring" noise followed by it is possibly a growl. Please make sure she isn't sick and is ok!! she is very uncomfortable!

She’s def distraught. They open their mouths when they’re stressed or hot but I’d assume stressed since it’s followed by a growl. If she were content enough to purr she wouldn’t be panting

I guess people want to be concerned for the health of an animal, which is nice to see at least, but as someone who owns chickens, reading her body language tells me she's cozy. She's not struggling or being restless, her eyes are relaxed, and she doesn't seem very alert. However, she is hot af which is what's throwing people off lol. Also the sound could go either way, it could be purring or it could be that something has her stressed her out but she also trusts you enough to stay comfortable while talking to you about it.

1- the mouth breathing she is very hot 2- that’s definitely a purr, ignore the people saying it’s a growl. This is the same vocalization they use when they take a dirt bath. Shes happy

I see people saying she's upset but I've tried to put my cuddly chicken down when she was growling and panting, but she walked right back up to me and shoved her face in my underarm for hugs. chickens just talk sometimes.

I have several hens who have imprinted on me. They purr just like this when they feel safe and comfortable. She’s hot, which is why she’s got her mouth open. Because it’s summer obviously. I also have one that likes to chit chat while she’s laying an egg 🤣
