I feel that the reason akasa allowed himself to give up was because he realized it’s okay to be weak. And that he even loved the weak, like his father and koyuki when she was sick . I think akasa seeing tanjiro get stronger reminded him of koyuki’s father and how he showed hakuji how to be strong. Reminding him of koyuki and remembering why he wanted strength. In the end he begged for forgiveness, and all i can think of is that in order to be set free from muzan and die he ALLOWED himself to be weak, showing how much he loves koyuki. Allowing himself to be weak and apologizing to koyuki even when all he truly wanted was to live a happy life. A man who was stripped of everything he loved sought out for revenge and strength to the point of losing himself. I love that the only one who pulled him back was the one he was fighting to protect.

Akaza’s mental health struggles are rooted in profound, unresolved trauma from his human life, which he masks through a destructive obsession with strength. As a human named Hakuji, he suffered the loss of his father to suicide and later his beloved Koyuki (and her father) to murder while he was away failures that left him paralyzed by guilt and a sense of helplessness. To protect his heart from this pain, he developed a tragic defense mechanism he rejected his past weakness by relentlessly pursuing "true strength" as a demon, using power to deny his inability to save those he loved. This obsession warped into a projection of his self hatred onto others; his disgust for the weak is actually a reflection of his hatred for his own powerless former self. Even after losing his human memories, this trauma drove his actions until his final battle, when the resurfacing memory of Koyuki led him to realize he had become the very monster he despised, prompting him to end his own life.
