Coming from someone that works selling natural stones ,don’t do marble for kitchen unless you don’t mind about scratching here and there and some stain also marble need maintenance,if you do want something unique and less maintenance go with quartzite ,if you don’t want to maintain or worry about it go with granite or quartz .

If you want to use your counter as a cutting board, get hardwood countertops! They are so cute and much more affordable than marble.

Please for the love of your knives, don’t cut directly on your countertops. It will dull them faster.

Might be shocking news but rubbing your knife on a rock like that makes it dull. It's not about damaging the counter.

Yeah, if you get marble countertops, USE a cutting board. Citrus damages marble. It can easily stain with other liquids. Cutting on the countertops dulls your knives, which are already dull (can see it in this video). Also, putting your finger out like that on the top of the knife is the wrong way to hold it, it makes it unsafe.

If this is how you intend to utilize your counters get a man made stone . Marble is soft and will stain , chip and is just not good for high traffic areas . Quartz will get damaged with direct heat or hot liquids . Any natural stone used as a cutting board will weaken it and you will get micro pieces of it in your food . I recommended granite . And using a glass or metal cutting board .

idk i'm a carpenter and i've seen a lot of fancy countertops installed, marble is definitely the most boring and risky one. i've seen some 'cheap' granite that makes marble look like dollar general decor.

Just a heads up, if you plan on cutting your lemons and limes on a marble counter top the citric acid in the lemon and lime juice WILL react with the calcium carbonate in marble and slowly dissolve your countertop.

Marble is so beautiful but I know if someone left a wine ring on my counter and it made a permanent stain, I’d lose my mind

As someone who used to sell counters, Taj Mahal is terrible. It’s expensive, delicate because of the natural fissures and is too over played as a trend. Marble is great but requires a lot of maintenance. I would look into fantasy white, It’s a dolomite(blend of granite and marble basically) that looks like marble

I worked at a countertop manufacturer... rule #1 we don't do anything on marble or soap stone except look at it
rule #2 we never ever ever put hot pans on any stone surface (except dekton which isn't even stone), I don't care what anybody says, use a trivet always unless you want cracked countertops
rule #3 you technically can cut directly on stone, but it dulls your knives at a rapid pace so why not just use a cutting board
You probably want a quartz that's made to look like marble, it has the durability of granite but they are manufactured to look however you want.

Fabricator here, if you want marble, I would suggest getting slabs that are honed or leathered. These finishes will help to hide the inevitable.

I have had honed marble in my kitchen for 4 years now and will never do anything else. It’s so stunning. Nothing compares! Zero stains. I can leave spaghetti sauce on it overnight and wipes right up. I have little wooden cutting boards sitting around I use for lemons. Everyone said not to and I’m so glad I didn’t listen.
