I’m a cos student rn and another reason why you don’t cut pass your second knuckle is bc naturally the bottom of your finger it slanted a bit so it’s bit of an angle. So when you go to cut, and you cut pass your second knuckle, the part that passes the second knuckle won’t be fully straight as the other parts where you cut before your second knuckle.

OMG! I wish my teachers explained the second knuckle like you just did! I didn't even realize it was also due to the difference in tension! I was just not to because I could cut myself and it would be inconvenient for the client because I had to clean up.

From my very continuous experience (can’t seem to learn my lesson here) cutting past the second knuckle means you’re gonna nick yourself more often than not. 😅😅😅
