I had an incredibly cathartic moment a couple of months ago when a colleague tried to argue with me on a topic that was unambiguously in my area of expertise and not remotely close to his. When he recognized that he was out of his depth he finally said “Well, ok I don’t know about —“ and I cut him off to say “That’s fine. I do.” I think about that moment anytime I want a boost of self-satisfaction.
