Harvard studied kids for 75 years to uncover the keys to success. It wasn't about grades or extracurriculars, but one simple thing most parents drop by age ten. We sign our kids up for soccer, tutoring, piano—all of it. We even do the dishes ourselves to maximize their study time. Yet, these studies found that grades weren't the answer. A happy, successful child truly needs two things: love and a strong work ethic. Most of us nail the love part, but the work ethic often gets overlooked. And here's the kicker: it doesn't come from homework or after-school classes. It comes from chores. Not clubs, not tutors, but simple tasks like clearing their plate, taking out the trash, feeding the dog, or folding laundry. These are precisely the things many parents stop requesting around age ten. The University of Minnesota tracked 84 kids from age five to twenty-five. The biggest predictor of success by twenty-five wasn't grades or family wealth, but whether they did chores at age three or four. The earlier it started, the stronger the impact. Starting at fifteen or sixteen barely moved the needle, but starting at three or four led to happier, more independent, and more successful adults by twenty-five. There's a strange disconnect: most moms grew up doing chores, but many don't ask their own kids to. We might think we're protecting their time, but we could be skipping the one habit that truly prepares them for adult life. Here are three rules that actually work: 1. Start early, at three or four. 2. Show them how by doing it together first. 3. Don't pay for chores, as it turns into a transaction. This isn't about a spotless house; it's about raising a child who feels needed and finishes what they start. What's the first chore you'd assign your child this week? #ParentingTips #ChildDevelopment #WorkEthic #ChoresForKids #SuccessMindset
