Today we’re making Salisbury Bistek; a Filipino American mash up (like me ☺️) of your classic American Salisbury Steak and Filipino Bistek. Consisting of juicy beef patties, mushrooms, and caramelized onions simmered in a savory, soy and citrusy gravy. With our first baby, we ordered so much food delivery. When you’re on maternity leave and disability, that money adds up incredibly fastttt and honestly, nothing hits like a home cooked meal anyway. So this time, I decided to do things differently for my family. Nesting looks a little different this time around, but I’m so happy to prioritize it. Because those first few weeks are a beautiful but omgggggg! An exhausting blur. Having food ready that you prepped for yourself is the ultimate act of self care. It’s like past you saying, “Hey, I was thinking of you.” You just freeze the patties right in the gravy, reheat when you’re ready to eat, and slide it over hot rice. To all the parents who have been in those tender, blurry early days, how did you feed yourself when you were in the thick of it? I remember being so tired one day I ate a piece of white bread from the bag and that’s it 😩🤣Let’s comfort each other in the comments 👇 This recipe will be up on my website soon, save this for the ingredient list and share it with someone who can use a freezer series in their lives! Beef Patties * 1 lb Ground beef (80/20) * 1/4 cup Panko breadcrumbs * 1 Large egg * 3 cloves Garlic, finely minced * 1 tbsp Datu Puti Soy sauce * 1/2 tsp Coarse black pepper * 1/2 tsp Kosher salt * 1 tbsp Neutral cooking oil For the Bistek Sauce & Gravy * 1 large White or yellow onion, sliced into thick, whole rings * 1/3 cup Datu Puti Soy sauce * 1/4 cup lemon or calamansi juice * 1 cup beef broth * 1 tsp Brown sugar * 3 tsp Cornstarch dissolved in 1 tbsp water * ⁠1 cup mushrooms, sliced 💘 Ingat #postpartumprep #freezermeals #nutriasia #bistek #datuputisoysauce @NutriAsia Philippines
