@tayahmp3: Random chitchat from me before I hit the hay because this was just randomly on my mind the other day😭 even tho nobody asked x #fyp #neurodivergent #adhd #autism
It’s crazy I used to hate lotion on my body sooo much but the feeling of dry skin became a new sensory issue. Once I started ritualising my skin care routine as almost a way to decompress, the good outweighed the bad and now I actually like how slinky I feel (though I need all my skin covered cause I don’t want hairs or dust sticking that is the worst)

Sensory issues are a nightmare, but I've accepted at the old age of 36 that comfort prioritises all

Tbh most autistic people I know do not follow conventional beauty standards at all. They might be into fashion or like makeup but it’s usually alternative and expressive. There are obviously cultural layers to presentability (between race, class, region etc) but I feel like performing a more normative conventional look only works with a very good mask, and a lot of ND people prefer to dress to offset expectations. If people are going to see you as “weird” or “off” it can feel better to embrace that and be “quirky” or “she doesn’t give a shit” from the very beginning and attract more similar people, than it is to try to fit in and fail or have people drawn to you who like the mask and exhaust yourself trying to keep up.

Lashesssssss !!!! After a few days lash clusters start annoying me so bad and I end up picking at them and then peeling them off because they’re half off already when they could’ve lasted me way longer

Hyper femininity and hyper sexualising myself for years so I could get away with being a bit odd. The day I got my dyspraxia diagnosis I got rid of all my jeans and most of my bras.

Literally… by time I’m done getting ready I just want to lay down but then the feeling of laying down with a wig, full face, etc on feels so so disgusting I just want to rip and rub everything off

I feel like I'm drowning in all the different things that social media is shoving down my throats, like a never ending list of standards. New trends, self care, different ways to make yourself look better, Manifesting, having better posture, having to look a specific way for people to like you. I can't leave the house without meeting some kind of standard in my head even if its just to go out to the shop, I think its a way I mask but at the same time it's so over whelming.

i had severe acne and i was prescribed antibiotics and a benzoyl peroxide gel. let me tell you, for 6 months i wanted to cut my face off from all of the burning. it triggered my sensory issues so bad to the point that i was wearing gloves just so i dont touch my face. it was really uncomfortable but it paid out. my mom always reminds me of the saying: “beauty is pain” and it REALLY is, especially for neurodivergents 😅

I physically can’t do lash extensions - too much to cope with from a sensory perspective. Also, I avoid long hairstyles because I don’t like feeling hair on my neck. I dress for comfort always, have stopped caring about being ‘perfect’

I’m dressing more for comfort now and shaved my head because the tickling of the hair on my head in my face upset me so much. So now I look like a boy. And not a pretty androgynous one. Just a frumpy confused boy.

I think that is the reasen the single rate among late diagnosed women is even higher.. bc ones we find that hidden side to comfort we cant perform and entertain a partner at home anymore. Because everything is so exhausting allready, let me be „ugly“ in peace!
