True. Leaf spiders were only discovered around 2023, we don’t know how long they’ve been around for, but they’ve been around for long enough. This discovery also suggests that there could be more camouflaged insects such as spider sticks or something like an acorn. So yes, chameleons are failures.

I mean the hole point they change colors is more or less Morse code to other chameleons and temperature displacement they only change hues slightly to hide from predators and calling them idiotic is incorrect because their has to some population of chameleons that aren't idiotic also it's the same as say the dodo but less extreme the first time we probably found a chameleon they didn't register us a threat or predator because it's never incounterd humans and doesn't know how to react Especially if it's Scienctist observing a specimen and not posing active threat
