I don’t see the step between being something that some bad people listen to in order to forget that they’re bad people, and culpability. Wagner is associated with the Nazis because he shared some of their beliefs and created art that they were inspired by. I don’t think anyone would make the leap of saying that opera as an art form, or even German opera specifically, bears responsibility for the Holocaust. This feels just as reactionary as blaming “goth” music or video games for school shootings, but even less coherent since it’s not even being suggested as a causal relationship. The statement about electronic dance music and raves as being promoted by neoliberalism is a bizarre historical retcon as well—until quite recently it was viewed in most of the world as a subversive and undesirable leftist counterculture.
