I don't think any individual can go directly to the carry trade buying the jgb's. There's about five or six houses that handle it through the camen Islands. They then resell it to mostly hedge funds

But the Yen falling is good for the carry trade...not only do they make the interest rate differential, they also make a currency gain when they convert back. Some of this is hedge funds at 100 times leverage. If it ever does unwind it could be very bad

So the yen carry trade is essentially Japanese people saving money and Americans spending that money and promising to pay it back but it’s becoming increasingly clear we will never do that
