Psych also has my favorite adaptation of Inspector Lestrade (aka Lassiter aka Lassie).

Dulé Hill could have played Freedman’s Watson but Freedman could NEVER be Gus.

I love that they let Gus have the most obscure knowledge. Yes they took advantage of his pharm knowledge, but he ALWAYS knew the most random information and it always made sense. Like of course Gus is a train expert, of course Gus spends his weekends at the planetarium…he had a full life and vast knowledge and it made him so much more than just a sidekick

BoganShill :
its a Sherlock adaptation where Sherlock isn't "the smart one" Gus is the walking encyclopedia. Sure Shawn notices more stuff and connects the dots to solve the mystery but he can never do it without Gus and his grab bag of random interests. Plenty of Watsons are wasted just following their Sherlock around being astounded by every observation but Gus has his own clue noticing skills aka the super sniffer! He is also the man with the van aka the blueberry.

Burton Guster contributed more medical knowledge as a pharmaceutical sales representative than Martin Freeman‘s John Watson did as an actual army doctor

my only problem in comparing psych to Sherlock holmes is gus.. unlike. watson who is a side kick.. Gus is a deuteragonist.. without Gus there would be no Shawn

have you watched Elementary? I'm not saying it competes with psych, but it understands that Watson needs to match Sherlock's freak the way Gus ALWAYS does for Shawn

Conrad Bamboozled :
Psych is easily top 3 Sherlock adaptations of all time, and a very strong candidate for #1. However, I think we’re forgetting about Hugh Laurie’s house MD. Notably house md has one of the best Sherlock adaptations and one of the worst James Watson adaptations. I’m not referring to James Wilson, I am referring to Lin manuel Miranda’s brief stint as a Watson stand in.

That whole show is so good. Dulè Hill as Burton Guster is elite. “Don’t go boneless on me Shawn”

The only Sherlock adaptation where Sherlock actually fully respects Watson and treats him as an equal

Shawn Spencer perfectly encapsulates the energy of a man living in a time where coke was something you did just for fun

I love how they are like, Watson = Doctor, Gus = Pharma Rep (cose enough) lol. And yes he is the BEST.

Best Sherlock adaptation and it's not close. Gus is one of the best characters in television history.

Ok this is the first time I’ve ever wanted to watch Psych… but also the first time I’ve heard it described as a Sherlock adaptation

the Boys2Men version of the theme song is still my ringtone (except for the month of October, when it's Werewolf Bar Mitzvah). Gus was my peacock profile picture from the day I got the app until they stole it from me last week 😒 Psych was so damn good!

Would I be crazy if I said the fact that they have no romantic tension at all makes it better for me? Like bc they're not leaning into or away from it their relationship can be so much closer platonically. I believe that Gus and Shawn are best friends. I don't believe any other combo is.
