if you’re new to surfing you can cover more of the board for better grip. Also most people Ik do diagonal lines both ways so they cross over. But it’s not that deep tbf, as long as there’s some wax on the lower half of the board

You only need to put it where your feet are going so it’s less slippery and it works best if you do a cross cross pattern! 😊
