I guess he knew the others would chose the number 1 so he chose 1.01 in order to be closer to the real number in case the number is any higher than 1

Based on hyper-analysis and the available video thats presented, he appears to have predicted that the timer would stop at approximately 1.01 seconds. His reasoning was likely based on the person recording hearing the familiar sound associated with exactly one second passing and using it as an auditory reference point. However, human reaction time, audio latency and the limited precision of judging time through sound make it extremely difficult to identify the exact millisecond. Therefore, although 1.01 seconds may have been a highly accurate prediction, landing precisely on that value would still involve a small amount of estimation and luck.
