Prosecutor Dale Scott finished his demonstration with a pathologist last week by questioning her about the stance gas station owner Rick Scott was in when he shot and killed 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack-Belton in Columbia, South Carolina, three years ago. Amy Durso, a forensic pathologist with the Medical University of South Carolina, agreed the trajectory is consistent with Cyrus running away from Chow with his back turned. “Would you expect this trajectory if I’m hunched over running?” Scott asked. “Yes, that would make more sense,” said Durso, who autopsied Cyrus and testified in Chow’s murder trial last week. “Now would you expect this trajectory if I was turned in any way like this? Scott asked as he repositioned himself. “Not from right behind you, no,” Durso answered. “Would it be consistent with somebody running away in a runner’s stance with their back directly towards you?” Scott asked. “Yes, if I fired the weapon from here with you in that stance,” Durso answered. “Essentially, if you just twisted just a tiny bit, that that would be consistent,” Durso answered. “If I’m for some reason turning around aiming at you like I’m doing now, is it possible to have this trajectory?” Scott asked. “No,” Durso testified. Chow, 61, has been in jail since police arrested him one day after the shooting. Jurors in his murder trial heard three days of testimony last week and will return to Judge Heath Taylor’s courtroom on Monday (June 1) for closing arguments.
