Gambling is the thrill, the fun. Like something fun for you, like your Sephora comment. The sparse interior? What purpose does it serve? Then we don’t want or need it. The golf thing is about having the best equipment to rule out that as part of the problem. It is also a bit about social proof.

Gambling is statistically stupid. On average people win 70% of the money put in. That means for every $100 gambled you will get back $70 in the long run. This is why casinos exist. Also, if they own expensive clubs and suck at golf, they go to drink, not play golf.
